For remote sites, we can provide off-grid (battery) technology and extremely low-draw appliances to maximize energy conservation and reduce the capital cost of our solar electric packages. Off-grid systems are perfect for remote locations where there is a low demand for electricity. The two scenarios that make sense to install an off-grid system would be if you absolutely want to be independent of electrical companies, or are in a remote location where there is no power grid to connect to.

Environmental Benefits

The United Nations Development Programme’s Productive Uses of Renewable Energy project has a global environment objective to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by thermal power generation in the national grid system and by diesel-based generators and village min-grids in isolated areas. Tied-to-grid systems and diesel-based generator systems still create fossil fuel burning and greenhouse gas emission. Using off-grid alternative energy systems ensures that you are not relying on fossil fuels or other greenhouse gas emission sources for power.

Health and / or Social Benefits

The United States is far behind other countries in its use of renewable energy. Fossil fuels are a dwindling resource and we need to be thinking about other sources of energy to keep our societies and economies functioning smoothly. Using off-grid systems for well pumps is another proven application, keeping fresh water available in remote areas. This could help countries in dry areas where there is an aquifer or water bed deep underground yet no grid to supply a pump. Solar panels can also be used to provide shade or keep the sun from directly striking a roof top. Roof systems alone in places of high heat can bring down the temperature in the house.

Off-grid systems are also used for livestock electric fences and aerator pumps in low-oxygen ponds. Many off-grid wells exist in remote areas of Texas and New Mexico on cattle ranges. This could also change the quality of life in poorer countries. Fortunately, the cost of solar electric (photovoltaic) technology is dropping as the technology advances, which could allow greater global use off off-grid solar power, reducing conflict over necessary resources.

Economic Benefits

Because of the cost of batteries, off-grid systems are usually more expensive than on-grid systems. But in areas where blackouts are common, or where there is no grid access, off-grid systems are critical, allowing for consistent and reliable use of sump, furnace, or air conditioner. Off-grid photovoltaic systems allow you to generate electricity and store it for use when needed. The use of photovoltaic technology contributes to our energy security, and, as a young technology, it creates jobs and strengthens the economy. It frees us from uncertainties and foreign oil dependence. This energy source is free, clean, and highly reliable. Photovoltaic systems are long-lasting and require little maintenance.
